Santa Cruz de Tenerife (EFE) in which they demand that the political parties commit to not degrading the territory.
The representatives of these organizations ask that experts, not just businessmen, participate in the preparation of environmental project reports, and have emphasized that politicians are running out of excuses.
They have recalled that they are not the authors of studies in which it is said that the Canary Islands are the second worst autonomous community in which life is lived, nor of those in which it is said that the Canary archipelago is at the forefront of poverty and exclusion of Europe, since they are made with official data.
A manifesto that has been presented by Jaime Coello, director of the Fundación Canaria Telesforo Bravo-Juan Coello, who has indicated that, unfortunately, these organizations are always on a plane of reacting to violations that are committed against the natural environment, and now what they do is make proposals based on expert approaches
He explained that the germ of these proposals came from a citizen, Bibiana Pérez, who stated that last August, when a camp was held to protest the works in the Cuna del Alma urbanization, in Tenerife, she “out of rage and impotence” of not being with them, he thought that the political class had to listen.
Bibiana Pérez thanked experts such as Jorge Riechmann, Manuel Hernández González, Federico Aguilera Klink, Marta Jiménez Jaén, María Tomé, Bentejui Hernández Acosta, Emilio Cuevas Agulló, Yeray Hernández González, Julio Muñoz Padilla, for their support in preparing these proposals. Esther Martín González, Antonio Eff-Darwich and Fernando Sabaté Bel.
A manifesto in which, among others, proposals for food, energy and economic sovereignty are proposed, as well as a natural heritage law, which has been expected for 17 years, and to approve the master plans for the use and management of the national parks, in addition to adopting measures to save water and a new tourist moratorium.
Bibiana Pérez expects more contributions to this manifesto, and has insisted that the political class should get involved “a little bit and listen to us.”
Anne Striewe, general director of the Canarina Foundation, has stressed the importance of separating the discourse of changing the socioeconomic model only from the left, since it is “everyone’s problem”, and has added that there is wealth in the Canary Islands but it is poorly distributed.
Eustaquio Villalba, from ATAN, has highlighted that the environmental problem of the Canary Islands will not be solved by ecologists if those who hold political and democratic responsibility do not accept the need to find a way to be respectful of the environment while seeking quality of life of citizens.
Daniel Duque, from Salvar la Tejita, has declared that the administrations look down on those who defend what belongs to everything, and he has criticized them because they often say that they protest when everything is done, when in reality they hide information from the Projects.
Antonio Sánchez, from the Coordinadora El Rincón, has denounced that the environment of the islands has deteriorated, but also the quality of life and even democracy, but also that the governments release projects for public information with little time for them to allegations are presented, to which many times they do not answer.
