Madrid (EFE).- The Minister for the Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, announced this Wednesday that the measures that the Council of Ministers will approve on Thursday to deal with the drought seek to anticipate and guarantee, if necessary, the water supply in cities, as well as their availability to farmers.
In statements to the media in the halls of Congress, Ribera has justified the need to hold an extraordinary monographic meeting to dedicate all the attention of all the ministers to this “relevant” matter, in the face of “increasingly intense and frequent” droughts.
He has indicated that the full content of the measures will be known tomorrow, but he has pointed out that in addition to the structural measures, it is necessary to have an “agile” reaction capacity when new actions are needed.
The third vice-president recalled that last year a package of measures had to be adopted to guarantee the water supply in cities and help farmers, and she highlighted the importance of third-cycle hydrological plans, designed to deal with these drought episodes.
It is necessary, he said, to anticipate to understand the impact that the seasonal meteorological prediction may have on the availability of water in the coming months in order to prepare an early reaction.
The PP sees “electoralism”
Given the call for this extraordinary council, the PP has asked the Government to put aside “electoralism and campaign strategy” and the general coordinator of the popular, Elías Bendodo, has urged that the new measures be agreed with the autonomous communities and the agents involved.
“Drought is one of the country’s main challenges, and I ask that if this debate takes place, it takes place seriously and away from all partisanship,” he said after attending an informative breakfast with the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeida .
“We are seeing this week that every announcement that Sánchez makes is linked to trying to grab a handful of votes and not to solving the problems of the Spaniards and the drought is indeed one of the priority issues of the Government of the nation and of the communities”, has stressed.
Also from Congress, the ERC spokesman, Gabriel Rufián, a parliamentary partner of the coalition government, has asked Sánchez “not to do electoralism” and to “propose solutions” to a problem that is practically global.
“That we do not accuse each other that it does not rain,” he ironized
