Palma (EFE) hammocks and umbrellas to contribute to the recovery of the dune system.
The PORN includes other restrictions already in force such as the reduction of parking spaces within the park, the prohibition to remove the dead Posidonia from Es Trenc and Ses Covetes and the impossibility of opening new tourist accommodation places throughout the protected area.
Almost 4,000 hectares
The Minister for the Environment, Miquel Mir, has appeared at the press conference after the Government Council to underline that with the approval of this plan, the executive meets “all the objectives that this legislature had in terms of protected natural spaces.”
In this sense, it has abounded that since 2019 management plans have been approved for the Albufera des Grau, the Albufera de Mallorca, the Llevant park, the Serra de Tramuntana area and the foundations have been laid for the future natural park of Ponent.
Mir explained that the PORN of Es Trenc-Salobrar de Campos, a marine-terrestrial park with a total of 3,780 hectares (almost two thirds of aquatic space), has as its main objective to preserve and restore “the beach-dune system” ordering the activities .
In addition to limiting tourist activities, concentrated in the summer months, policies are established to promote the traditional uses of the space: agriculture and the production and extraction of salt.
The PORN plans to carry out a carrying capacity study focused on the conservation of coastal spaces within a maximum period of three years to fine-tune access regulation measures.
Limits to beach bars and umbrellas
Mir has highlighted that since the implementation of the natural park, most of the measures included in the plan have already been implemented, such as the reduction of beach bars and hammocks.
The six kiosks built on the sand were demolished and replaced by three removable ones that are installed only in summer and have a surface area of 20 square meters, while sunbeds and umbrellas have been cut from 1,000 to 300.
The minister has remarked that since 2017 “ecological policies” began to be applied in the Es Trenc area, one of the “most emblematic” of Mallorca, there has been a “180 degree change” that is already beginning to bear fruit in the environmental recovery of the park.
