Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam) (EFE) , the Vietnamese meteorological service said on Sunday.
The record temperature was registered in the town of Hoi Xuan, in the province of Than Hoa, in the north of the country, and is almost one degree higher than the 43.4 degrees reached in April 2019 in the also northern province of Ha Tinh.
The extreme heat suffered by Vietnam in the last three days has left temperatures between 39 and 43 degrees in at least 15 locations, but they are expected to begin to soften from today.
The heat wave has affected the center and north of the country, but the south has also suffered high temperatures in the last month in the hottest period of the year before the rainy season begins.
Vietnam’s temperatures have not been exceptional in the area, with countries including Thailand, Laos and Burma (Myanmar) hitting record temperatures and with two alleged deaths of two children in Malaysia from the extreme heat.
Thailand reached 45.4 degrees Celsius in Tak province on April 15, exceeding 45 degrees for the first time in its history, and Laos also registered a record temperature of 42.7 degrees in Luang Prabang.
