València, (EFE).- The Valencian Community has broken the record for the minimum temperature recorded in a month of July since there are records at dawn this Thursday and it has done so in numerous locations, in which the thermometers have exceeded 27 degrees.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the minimums have been “very high” and have not dropped below 27.5 degrees in Valencia; 27.3 at the Manises airport, 27.2 at Benidorm; 27.1 in Xàbia, and 27 in Zarra and Miramar.
In Castelló de la Plana the minimum has been 26.5 degrees; in Alicante and Pego, 26.4; in Orihuela and Sagunto, 26.2, and in Novelda and Torreblanca, 26.1.
The warmest July on record
In Valencia, with 27.5 degrees, the warmest night in July has been experienced since there are records and the minimum of August 13, 2022 is equaled as the warmest night since data was recorded in the city.
However, according to the Thermal Sensation Index for heat (Heat Index), which measures what the human body feels due to the combination of ambient temperature and relative humidity, the thermal sensation tonight was between 32 and 33 degrees.
The Valencia airport has also experienced the warmest night since there are records, having exceeded 27.1 on July 27, 2022 and 26.6 on August 10, 2019, according to provisional data.
The same has happened in Castelló de la Plana, which, with 26.5 degrees, has spent the warmest night in July since there are records, and in Alicante, which has equaled the record for the warmest night in a month of July since there are records, with 26.4 degrees.
An anomaly of more than 2 degrees
The average temperature estimated in the average of the Valencian Community until this Wednesday marks a temperature anomaly of 2.4 degrees. Since 1950, it is the warmest period after the records of July 2015.
The days 11, 12, 18 and 19 of July have recorded a record of warm days in the Valencian Community.
When disaggregating the data into maximum and minimum temperatures, the anomaly of the nights (with 2.8 degrees above the average) compared to the days (+ 2 degrees) stands out, and between July 1 and 20, the minimum temperatures in the Valencian Community are the warmest since at least 1950.
Not only on the coast the nights are being very anomalous, but also inland, where Ontinyent, with more than 100 years of records, is having the warmest nights in July (days 1 to 20), with an average of 21.6 degrees, compared to 21.3 in 2015 or 19.4 in 2018.
The sea also sets a temperature record
The Valencia buoy of Puertos del Estado registered this Wednesday the highest value of sea water temperature in a month of July, with 28.56 degrees.
This is “extraordinary” data, not only because it is the highest record of sea water temperature recorded at the Valencia buoy in a month of July, but also because of the very early date it was recorded, before the 20th.
From Aemet, they advance that it is possible that yesterday’s record will be broken again this Thursday, and they remember that the highest temperature of sea water is usually recorded in mid-August.
Last year the maximum historical sea temperature was recorded at the Valencia buoy on August 11, with 29.94 degrees.
The average sea temperature in coastal waters of the Community on July 16 was 27.5 degrees, which represents an average anomaly of 2.3 degrees above the average for the period 1991-2020.
This is the largest anomaly recorded in the coastal waters of the Valencian Community since at least 1940, surpassing the records of 2015 and 2022, which are the next in the series.
On July 16, the surface temperature of the sea water in coastal waters of Castelló was 27.6 degrees (an anomaly of +2.3), the average in Alicante was 27.5 ºC (+2.4), and in Valencia, the average was 27.4 (+2.2).
The State Meteorological Agency points out that the entire coastline is very muggy and with a relative humidity between 70 and 80%, and warns of possible storms that can form after noon, since they can be accompanied by gusts of very strong wind, hail and heavy showers.
