Madrid (EFE) and in which a huge pink ribbon fifty meters long was unfolded before the start.
The participants traveled 7.2 kilometers between Calle Serrano, at the height of the National Library, and Paseo de Camoens, at the third stop on the national circuit of the Women’s Race.
One of the protagonists was the triple badminton world champion, Carolina Marín, who was at the start of the race as an ambassador for Banco Santander, a partner in the event.
Before the start, the organization wanted to pay homage to Virginia Torrecilla for her career as a soccer player and for having overcome cancer, and also to the marathon runner Clara Simal, who in the last Zurich Seville Marathon once again competed at her best level (with a mark personal 2h30:25) after being the mother of three children, even managing to be the second Spanish finish line.
In the race, the victory went to the Serbian Ivana Zagorac, who stopped the clock in 24:07, beating her sister Sladjana in a sprint. The first Spanish was Silvia Rey Vega, third with 24:10.
Beyond that victory, in the competitive part, the vast majority of participants walked the route under a festive atmosphere and dressed in the pink shirt and its corresponding number with 016, the telephone number for victims of gender violence. that leaves no trace on the invoice.
This year, the organization of the Women’s Race has chosen soccer to give visibility to women in sport, coinciding with the creation of the soccer doll within the #MasqueUnaMuñeca collection. Virginia Torrecilla, an Atlético de Madrid player, has been taken as a model.
The fourteen models of dolls, which make up a diverse social model, are sewn by hand by women victims of sexual and labor exploitation trafficking as part of the collaboration of the Women’s Race with the Esperanza Project and Wanawake, which also continues to support solidarity bracelets made by Maasai women.
The Women’s Race circuit began in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on March 12 and made its second stop in Valencia on April 23 before ending up in Madrid. The next appointments are in Vitoria (May 21), Gijón (June 18), A Coruña (September 24), Seville (October 8), Zaragoza (October 22) and Barcelona (November 12).
The test maintains the solidarity spirit of previous editions and for this reason it will make a final contribution to the Spanish Association Against Cancer of 75,000 euros.
