Santander, May 7 (EFE).- Barça fulfilled the forecasts and raised its twenty-seventh Copa del Rey de Balonmano in Santander, the tenth in a row, after beating BM Logroño La Rioja in the final (34-23) in a match that he left sentenced in the first part.
BM Logroño La Rioja started the game very focused and applied in defense, which even allowed them to get ahead of Barcelona in the first minutes (3-4).
Like Bathco BM Torrelavega in the quarterfinals, the coach from La Rioja, Miguel Ángel Velasco, opted at the beginning to play with an attack of seven, without a goalkeeper, to have numerical superiority, which meant a risk in case of loss, and Barça did not forgive those mistakes to get a first advantage of three goals (11-8).
The Catalan team defended well and, little by little, increased their lead, which, thanks to a 7-0 run, with ten minutes to go in the first half, reflected a 17-9 scoreline.
As if that were not enough, when the franjivinos managed to break through the Barça wall, they found an inspired Emil Nielsen and Barça reached the break with an almost definitive result in their favor (20-13).
At the start of the second half, Carlos Ortega’s men did not slow down and endorsed a new 4-1 run to take the game to a 10-goal difference (24-14) that would practically last until the end.
With the final 34-23, Barça certified a new title and accumulates 27 gimped of the 48 editions of the Copa del Rey disputed.
Despite the defeat, BM Logroño La Rioja was at least able to also celebrate their qualification to play the EHF European League and the Spanish Super Cup next season.
