Santa Cruz de Tenerife, May 6 (EFE).- The Ciudadanos (Cs) candidate for mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Enrique Arriaga, presented his electoral program this Saturday, in which he proposes to recover the lost leadership of a capital that it needs to be “reborn” after “decades of immobility” that have led to increasing insecurity, dirt and uninhabitability.
Arriaga, who summarizes the Ciudadanos program for the capital in the motto “Santa Cruz is more”, has defended in a public act the need for solutions to crime and dirt, to the lack of mobility, to the lack of leisure and services and the decline in quality of life that, in his opinion, the city suffers.
The candidate has promised to increase cleaning services and eliminate pests and dirt, applying daily cleaning zafarrancos, washing sidewalks and exterminating rats.
In security, Arriaga has said that crimes have increased by 20% in one year and that the Local Police staff is depleted, largely dedicated to administrative tasks, for which reason he has proposed the creation of 150 more agent positions.
The Cs candidate has defended the opening of Santa Cruz to the sea, with comprehensive coastal planning that includes measures such as burying the Avenida Marítima, enabling coastal pedestrian walkways, recovering the Los Llanos dock with bathing areas and the fitting out leisure areas around the Maritime Park.
Leisure areas are a priority for Arriaga, who argues that this way young people will not have to go to other municipalities and the city will also attract residents from other parts of the island and tourists.
The candidate affirms that Santa Cruz should aspire to be a livable and sustainable city, where pedestrians are given preference over vehicles, making it difficult for them to travel and widening the sidewalks for those.
It is also necessary to improve mobility with the extension of two tram lines, one of them from the Meridiano Shopping Center to the North dock and another from the Hospital de La Candelaria to Añaza, in addition to the extension of line 2 at least to the Snowman.
The reservation of exclusive lanes for buses to facilitate access to neighborhoods is another of his proposals, as well as rearranging the bus lines and adapting them to the current reality.
In cultural matters, Enrique Arriaga has proposed to value the important cultural heritage of Santa Cruz.
Another of his proposals is to prepare the city for the practice of sport, with the recovery of spaces in the port area and the opening of educational center facilities on weekends.
Arriaga has also defended, in social matters, that the City Council coordinate social aid for the most vulnerable and create a network of places for family gatherings.
“We must recover the splendor”, that families live “more comfortable and safe” in a city “with more benefits and services, attractive, that is a friend of commerce and that does not hinder business development”, Arriaga stated. EFE
