Murcia, May 4 (EFE).- Two years after the failed motion of no confidence presented by the PSOE and Cs against the PP government, President Fernando López Miras is the only candidate who once again heads his party’s list and, according to In the polls, it caresses a sufficient majority to form a government by surpassing the sum of the left-wing parties in seats.
López Miras, who came to power in 2017 following the resignation of his predecessor, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, due to his legal charges, and who formed a government in 2019 despite not having won the regional elections, this legislature has avoided the coronavirus pandemic coronavirus, the changes in parliamentary majorities derived from the expulsion of three deputies from Cs and many others from Vox, and the crisis that arose in the national leadership of his party with the departure of Pablo Casado and his general secretary, Teodoro García from Murcia Aegean.
The PP candidate is the only one who, in the pre-election polls, enjoys the approval of the people of Murcia and has championed in his years in office the demands of the agricultural sector, which sees the survival of the Tajo-Segura transfer threatened with the approval of the new Plan Tagus and the increase in headwater flows.
If the polls are confirmed, the PP will regain victory at the polls after having seen how Vox became the party with the most votes in this community in the last general elections and the PSOE did the same in the regional elections four years ago.
The lack of water, the degradation of the Mar Menor, citizen security and unemployment are the great topics of regional debate in these weeks prior to 28M, when the weight of Vox, PSOE, Podemos (which is presented in coalition with IU) will be checked ) and Cs (which disappears from the legislature, according to the last two polls).
Slightly more than a million voters are called to the polls in these elections, in which the local map will also be renewed after four years of a Socialist majority.
In fact, the crisis of the orange party has also caused the transfer of former Cs positions to other candidacies, especially the PP, for elections that see the return to political life of the former president by the PP Alberto Garre, today a Vox candidate to the Assembly, and the weight acquired in the majority parties of independent candidates, such as the journalist Carmen Conesa in second place on the list of Fernando López Miras.
In a municipal key, the PSOE will try to maintain the presidency of the Murcia City Council, which it achieved in 2021 by prospering the motion of censure presented against the “popular” José Ballesta, who once again heads the candidacy of his party.
Ballesta starts as a favorite although he has been questioned in the last two years by the rest of the formations due to his little municipal activity since the opposition.
In Cartagena, where the PP governs due to a pact with the PSOE that led to the expulsion of the socialist councilors, the “popular” candidate Noelia Arroyo will renew the mandate to confirm the pre-election polls, and will face Ana Belén Castejón, who assumed the baton of command the first two years of the legislature and has founded his own party.
