Madrid (EFE).- The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, is going to meet this Thursday with the head of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, on the second day of his state visit to Spain, in a meeting in which they will sign several agreements in order to strengthen political and economic relations between the two countries.
The meeting between Sánchez and Petro will take place at the Palacio de la Moncloa (12:00 noon), after the Colombian president advocated yesterday, Wednesday, for “examining” the relationship with Spain to enter another stage.
Both are going to review the main issues of the bilateral relationship and others of a regional nature, such as the peace process launched in the Andean country to try to get the guerrillas that are still active to lay down their arms, to which Sánchez will provide the support of Spain.
Sánchez is going to inform the Colombian president of the plans that Spain has during his rotating European presidency for the next semester, in which the summit between the EU and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) will be held in July in Brussels.
After the meeting, they will sign the agreements, appear before the media and have lunch.
The meeting in Moncloa will take place after Petro participates in the forum organized by the CEOE to analyze business and investment priorities and opportunities in Colombia.
The finishing touch to the second day of the visit will be the reception that the Colombian president and his wife, Verónica Alcocer, will offer the king and queen at the El Pardo Palace (8:00 p.m.), where they are staying during their visit to Madrid .
