Madrid (EFE).- Spain received 13.7 million foreign tourists in the first quarter of the year, a figure that is 3.5% below the level before the pandemic, but whose spending, with 17,201 million euros, is 11.9% higher than that made in 2019.
In year-on-year terms, the volume of international tourists who visited Spain in the first three months of 2023 represents an increase of 41.2%, while their total spending is 44.7% higher.
The main issuing countries in the first three months of 2023 are the United Kingdom (with almost 2.6 million tourists and an annual increase of 46.7%), France (more than 1.7 million and an increase of 31.5% ) and Germany (with almost 1.7 million tourists, 29.8% more).
The United Kingdom is also the country with the highest accumulated spending up to March (16.6% of the total), followed, in this case, by Germany (11.7%) and the Nordic countries (8.9%), according to movement surveys. tourism at borders (Frontur) and tourist spending (Egatur) published this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
