Salamanca (EFE).- They do not have unemployed relatives, they worked to pay for part of their studies and they have not traveled by plane for many years. José Luis Mateos (PSOE), 33, and Ana Suárez (Ciudadanos), 49, are two of the main candidates competing this May 28 for the Mayor’s Office of Salamanca.
The current mayor and candidate of the PP, Carlos García Carbayo, has declined to participate in this common questionnaire raised by the EFE Agency on aspects that, in principle, have little to do with politics.
José Luis Mateos (PSOE) and Ana Suárez (Cs)
1. When you are sick, do you self-medicate?
-José Luis Mateos (PSOE): “In general no, I try not to self-medicate, although if I have a headache I take paracetamol and ibuprofen.”
-Ana Suárez (Citizens): “I almost never get sick, I have a very strong immune system, but if I have a cold I take an aspirin.”
2. How many relatives do you have unemployed?
-José Luis Mateos (PSOE): “Directly none now, but many of them have been unemployed or have had to leave Salamanca.”
-Ana Suárez (Citizens): “Right now none, because both my sister and my brother and my brothers-in-law are working.”
3. With which character from Don Quixote do you most identify?
-José Luis Mateos (PSOE): “Perhaps with Quixote himself.”
-Ana Suárez (Citizens): “In recent times I have identified myself with Don Quixote for this way of fighting against obstacles for ideals.”
4. In the distribution of tasks at home, what do you do?
-José Luis Mateos (PSOE): “We try to make it as balanced as possible, but the lack of time makes me not be at home much. I take care of the cleaning.”
-Ana Suárez (Citizens): “We have an absolutely balanced cast: my cat sleeps and I do everything”.
5. Where did your last plane trip go and what motivated you?
-José Luis Mateos (PSOE): “Many years ago, on the high school end-of-year trip to France.”
-Ana Suárez (Citizens): “In 2008, in Lanzarote on vacation, what a beautiful island!”.
6. Who was your youth idol?
-José Luis Mateos (PSOE): “I have always been a member of Atlético de Madrid and the Salamanca teams, and at that time the idol was Kiko Narváez”.
-Ana Suárez (Citizens): “Luis Eduardo Aute, I loved his way of claiming and fighting through poetry.”
7. What is the best memory or inheritance from your parents?
-José Luis Mateos (PSOE): “The best legacy I can have is simplicity, honesty and trying to do things as well as possible.”
-Ana Suárez (Citizens): “I have many and very beautiful memories. The best inheritance…well, my cat, Pepa”.
8. Any traffic ticket?
-José Luis Mateos (PSOE): “Yes, a couple of them.”
-Ana Suárez (Citizens): “Some for a little speeding.”
9. How long has it been since you went to the movies? What movie did she see?
-José Luis Mateos (PSOE): “About three months ago I went to see ‘As Bestas’”.
-Ana Suárez (Citizens): “I went a little while ago, I really like the cinema. The last one I’ve seen is ‘The Whale’, which made a huge impact on me”.
10. Did you work while you were studying at the university, did you have a scholarship or did your family pay for your studies?
-José Luis Mateos (PSOE): “A combination of everything: I had a scholarship, I had help from my parents and in the summers I took the opportunity to do a little job.”
-Ana Suárez (Citizens): “I had a scholarship but it didn’t allow me to cover the entire cost of studying abroad, so I worked in hospitality for five years.” EFE
