Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Apr 30 (EFE).- The Socialist Party of the Canary Islands has presented its candidacies this Sunday on the island of Gran Canaria, where its leaders have shown themselves to be “convinced” of “winning” by improving the numbers of 2019 in the next elections on May 28.
The current president of the Government of the Canary Islands and socialist candidate to revalidate the position, Ángel Víctor Torres, has explained that after traveling to all the islands, this act in Infecar culminates the presentation of candidates, in this case those of Gran Canaria, and They do so with “the will and conviction to improve” the results of 2019.
As he has expressed to the media, the Socialists seek to ensure that with the candidate Augusto Hidalgo, “after responsible, loyal, and rigorous work”, it is “time for the mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to become president of the Government of the island as president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria”.
For her part, she is committed to the role of Carolina Darias so that she “continues in the wake of the good years as a socialist mayor, becoming the first socialist woman to become mayoress of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria”.
He has also been “convinced” of being able to improve the data both in the island list headed by Sebastián Franquis and in the regional one headed by himself.
“We had magnificent results in 2019, but I am sure and convinced that with the work carried out we will have greater support on the island of Gran Canaria than we had four years ago”, with the “will and commitment” to “continue consolidating the social changes that have taken place” in the Canary Islands, Torres has proclaimed.
Within these measures, he has highlighted the will to “walk towards dependency and end the lists”, ensuring that “we can do it this year, at the beginning of 2024”, as well as in the housing plan “with works on different islands and in different municipalities” and in “a law against climate change with very specific proposals and a 2030 agenda that is put into practice.”
He has also highlighted the proposal for “free public education such as 0 to 3 years and another to lower the ratio and have better education”, in addition to “more health professionals”, and walk with an economy that is “strengthened ”.
In Torres’ opinion, a “proud Canary Islands is possible, looking ahead and on an equal footing before any other territory” and also “fighting for what the Canary Islands means.”
The objective, he said, is “to do it before the central government, so that the Canary Islands prosper and be better than yesterday”, and that is “the will of each day and it is what we are going to achieve in the coming years”.
The candidate for Parliament for Gran Canaria, Sebastián Franquis, has indicated this act as “an essential moment” because it is a period of “giving an account to the citizens of the last four years” in front of those who presented themselves with the message of that “it was possible to produce a change in the community and I objectively believe that the Canary Islands are in better conditions than they were then.”
For Franquis, the proof is that there has been “growth in employment” and the improvement of essential services, especially those related to the welfare state, “has been clearly seen”.
The Canary Islands, said the Socialist candidate for Parliament, has managed to “have more prominence in the regional context and is the community that is best financed of all, a product of the crisis we are experiencing” and which, as he recalled, has also been added the volcanic crisis and the migratory crisis.
In the opinion of Franquis, “people agree that the government has shown its face and has responded to the expectations that were being raised at all times”, and they share “the way of understanding the Canary Islands that the Socialist Party has been building day by day ”.
For the current Minister of Public Works, “there are problems that existed a few years ago and that occupied an important space and that have disappeared or are solved”, as is the case of the Highway Agreement.
The citizens, he said, “agree with us and this is demonstrated”, as “the surveys show”, because “the Government has placed the Canary Islands in better conditions than it did in 2019”.
In the next 15 days, he has advanced, the objective is “to maintain the confidence of the citizens and explain the project of the Socialist Party” with “balance, dialogue and understanding”, which in his opinion “has differentiated it from the rest of the political forces”, moving away from the “hustle and bustle” that is “what we were used to in previous times”.
He shared the conviction that “we are going to be able to renew the confidence of the citizens on May 28.”
The candidate for the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Augusto Hidalgo, has defined himself as “the mayor of the Gran Canarias and Gran Canarias” and has explained that the socialist candidacy for the island in the different institutions “combines experience with the ability to incorporate young people as well ”, that “can contribute to a government that goes from minute one to having the capacity to govern”, because “we are clear that we are going to win the elections”.
He has celebrated the good forecasts of the surveys and has pointed out that they are doing “a job from street to street, from neighborhood to neighborhood”.
The Island Council, has pointed out, “it has to be an institution that is attached to the citizens” and has been “convinced” that “this will happen as of May 28” because they have “a fantastic team with the experience , because he is governing at this moment, and the work in the street with the people who need it ”.
Its objective is for Gran Canaria “to return to the place it deserves, as the leader of the Canarian economy and the one that generates the most GDP in the Canary Islands”.
The candidate for the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Carolina Darias, explained that this is “an important act of the socialists of Gran Canaria” because they are presenting candidacies “loaded with the future, hope and, above all, life opportunities ”.
In the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, she seeks to “revalidate a third socialist term and to be the first socialist woman mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria”.
In this work he has confessed with “great enthusiasm and great desire” to “make Las Palmas de Gran Canaria the best city to live in”, which is “educating, sustainable, accessible, healthy and ultimately a city for life”. . EFE
