Ibiza, Apr 27 (EFE).- The Malaspina hydrographic ship ran aground this Thursday on a shoal near the island of Es Vedrà, southeast of Ibiza, when it was carrying out its exploration mission, the Ministry of Defense reported in a statement.
The ship has reported that in an initial inspection it has been verified that it is aground at the height of the wheelhouse and no structural damage or personal injury has been observed.
The Malaspina carries out a hydrographic campaign to conclude the update of the nautical cartography within the National Cartographic Plan, to guarantee safety in navigation.
At this time, the dispatch of means to support the actions to remove the ship from the place where it has run aground is being coordinated with Maritime Rescue and the Civil Guard.
When it was stranded, the ship was exploring a shallow area to the west of the island of Ibiza.
In 2007, the ship underwent modernization and habitability improvement works, in which new sensors were installed and its capabilities were improved.
Since its commissioning, the BH Malaspina has sailed more than 180,000 miles acquiring bathymetry and oceanography data along the entire Spanish coast.
