Kiev (EFE) Chernobyl disaster.
“37 years ago, the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant left an immense wound throughout the world,” wrote the Ukrainian head of state, who also recalled that the place where the catastrophe occurred was occupied by the Russians and recovered by Ukrainian troops “more than a year ago”.
“We must do everything possible to prevent the terrorist state (Russia) from using nuclear power facilities to blackmail Ukraine and the world,” Zelensky added in his message.
Kiev accuses Russia of using the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, located in the southeast of Ukraine and occupied by Russia since the first days of the invasion, as a shield to launch attacks against territory controlled by the Ukrainian government.
The international community and the International Atomic Energy Agency have repeatedly expressed concern that the fighting could cause a nuclear accident at what is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.
