Madrid (EFE).- The President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, begins an official visit to Spain on Tuesday in which both governments will try to relaunch the bilateral relationship after the difficulties of the Jair Bolsonaro period and despite the existing differences on the search for peace in Ukraine.
The first act on Lula’s agenda in Spain will be his presence this afternoon at a business forum to be held at Casa América in Madrid and in which he will be accompanied by the First Vice President, Nadia Calviño.
Sánchez will not be able to be with the Brazilian president in this act because he has an appearance in plenary session of the Senate.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, he will be received by Sánchez at the Moncloa Palace and, later, the Brazilian president will hold a meeting with the king at the Royal Palace, where there will be lunch afterwards.
First visit to Europe in his new term
The economic component is particularly relevant in this visit, the first made to Europe by the Brazilian president in his new term and which has had Portugal as its first stage.
In Lisbon, he offered details of his proposal to achieve peace in Ukraine consisting of bringing together a group of countries to facilitate negotiations.
Government sources consider that on this trip he has qualified his initial approach and the criticisms he made of the United States and the EU for providing weapons to Ukraine because the conflict is prolonged in this way.
The European Union regretted that with these statements it put the aggressor and the victim on an equal footing, and the Sánchez Executive recognizes that there are differences between its position and that of Lula.
Beyond the nuances about Ukraine, the Government is determined to relaunch the political, economic, commercial, cultural relationship with Brazil on this visit, and in many other areas, a relaunch that is intended to be evidenced by the signing of various bilateral agreements.
Lula will be told that Spanish companies continue to see Brazil as a destination for their long-term investments and that Spain is the gateway for Brazilian investments both to the EU and to the Maghreb and the entire African continent.
