Madrid (EFE) in Seville, 35 degrees in Zaragoza, 33 degrees in Madrid and 30 degrees in Burgos.
Said air mass “could be the warmest located over Spain for these dates in at least the last 43 years,” said Rubén Del Campo, spokesman for Aemet, who explains that this episode of “exceptionally high” values for April is the sum of several factors.
The first, the very warm air coming from low latitudes and that will travel through North Africa before reaching our country; the second, the situation of atmospheric stability, and finally the prevailing strong insolation, with the sun already high on the horizon heating up strongly, if the skies are clear.
Progressive rise in temperatures
The ascent will be “progressive” both at night and during the day until Thursday and Friday, “the hottest days”, although from tomorrow temperatures will be between 5 and 10 degrees above normal in most of of the country and between 10 and 15 degrees above between Thursday and Friday.
“Even up to more than 15 degrees ahead of normal on Friday in points in the south of the peninsula,” Del Campo emphasized.
By geographical area, the Atlantic coast of Galicia and the Cantabrian communities will be freed from the heat, although in the interior of both it will be possible to exceed 25 degrees, on the contrary, on the Catalan coast and north of the Valencian Community, the temperatures will be milder , by the breezes.
In the Canary Islands, somewhat high temperatures are expected for the season, and from Wednesday and Thursday it will exceed 30 degrees in Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.
High minimum temperatures for the season
Regarding the minimums, in general, they will also be high for the time of year, and from Thursday/Friday there will be “tropical nights in the south of the peninsula and the Mediterranean”, with minimums of 20 degrees in Almería, Alicante, Jaén and Málaga .
This episode of intense heat – Del Campo has predicted – could last until Saturday, when the entry of a cooler Atlantic air mass will cool the country, although that day will still be “very hot” in the east and in the Balearic Islands, with 35 degrees.
Starting this Monday, the Guadalquivir Valley will reach 32 degrees and will remain clear throughout Spain and with hardly any rain, except in Galicia, to give way to a Tuesday with “even warmer” air, which will increase night and day values in the southeast, 6 to 8 degrees from Monday.
Tomorrow 28 degrees or more will be recorded in large areas of the country and even 34 degrees in the Guadalquivir Valley, the Region of Murcia and the Valencian Community, and, again “on Wednesday another new thermal rise”, except on the shores of the Mediterranean, where they will descend slightly due to the breezes.
In this way, on Wednesday 32 degrees will be exceeded in the Ebro Valley, in the interior of the Valencian Community, Castilla-La Mancha, southern Extremadura and areas of Andalusia, with Córdoba and Seville marking 37 degrees.
The spokesman recalled that the record in April for these two Andalusian cities is 35.4 degrees in Seville and 34 degrees in Cordoba, data, which in his opinion, give an idea of how “extraordinary this episode is.”
Thursday and Friday: “the hottest days”
On Thursday and Friday, “the hottest days”, it will exceed 30 degrees in almost all of Spain: Madrid will be around 31-32 degrees (the record for April in the capital is 30.1 degrees), and up to 34- 35 degrees in the Ebro Valley and the southern half of the peninsula, while in the Guadalquivir Valley 38 degrees, without ruling out 40 degrees, something “absolutely extraordinary” in April.
At this point, the spokesman has highlighted the cloudiness forecast for Thursday and Friday, which “adds uncertainty to the forecast” because in some areas the temperatures could stay somewhat lower.
For the weekend, on Saturday there is uncertainty, but it seems that the heat will persist in the east of the peninsula and in the Balearic Islands, with a maximum of more than 35 degrees, while on Sunday a general decrease in thermometers is expected, ending this episode extremely warm, according to Aemet.
