Madrid, April 23 (EFE).- The Italian gastronomy restaurant that suffered a fire in which two people died on Friday night in Madrid’s Plaza de Manuel Becerra has a license for hospitality activity that includes kitchen and cooking elements , assure EFE municipal sources.
They refer to a screenshot that circulates on social networks in which the activity of the premises is described as a “bar without a kitchen”, a cataloging that, according to the same sources, does not indicate that the establishment does not have a license to cook.
They detail that the heading ‘bar without kitchen’ corresponds to the description made by the census of premises, an issue that “has nothing to do with the license or urban planning”, and they say that “it could be an error in the heading”.
The Madrid City Council is investigating the status of the restaurant’s license to determine “whether or not the prescriptions it contains were met,” explained the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, from the scene.
Friday night became a tragedy for the diners of the Burro Canaglia Bar & Resto restaurant, when around 11:00 p.m. the small venue burned down with about 30 people inside, due to a flame that came to the roof of the establishment after flambéing a plate one of the waiters.
The fire spread very quickly through the plastic decoration of artificial vegetation on the ceiling and on the interior walls, and diners and employees were locked inside, claiming two victims: a client and a waiter.
The National Police is investigating the tragic event, which caused twelve injuries, eight of whom remain hospitalized in different hospitals in the region, four of them in the ICU, three in major burn units with burns of between 8 and 25% of their body, and another in intermediate care.
