Cádiz, (EFE).- Starting this week, the city of Cádiz celebrates the centenary of one of its most prominent writers, Carlos Edmundo de Ory, with a recovery of his most popular poems that are exhibited in the streets, a reading at student charge and a “swell” in the Diputación, where their works are remembered with music and laughter.
The coordinator of the Carlos Edmundo de Ory Foundation, Salvador García, who watches over the memory of the author from Cádiz born on April 27, 1923, has detailed to EFE that this very special anniversary opens this week, but gives rise to a whole year of activities to remember the validity of his legacy.
“We are going to try to make the 27th a public holiday, and that, from then on, this whole year is full of activities,” he announced.
The week will start with the placement of banners along some streets in the center of the city in which some of Ory’s aerolites can be read, some short, reflective, and fun phrases that are part of his most accessible and popular work.
Edmundo de Ory did not like tributes
Some of these aerolites and other verses will be read by Cádiz secondary school students around the statue that Luis Quintero dedicated to the author and was placed in front of his birthplace, in Alameda, where you can see an Ory outside from the pedestal addressing his beloved sea.
Carlos Edmundo de Ory did not like tributes, so Cádiz will give him a “wave” on the afternoon of April 27, with the presence of friends, admirers and local musicians, who will interpret some of his texts.
It will be in the Diputación, where, for several weeks, the exhibition “The central cabin” has been open, curated by Juan Manuel Bonet, which covers his life, and which served to give Cadiz content to the International Language Congress.
In this exhibition, it is better known, through personal objects and his careful legacy, who founded postismo, together with Eduardo Chicharro and Silvano Sernesi, became an acclaimed and subversive figure, lived in exile in France and maintained correspondence with numerous prominent authors of the time.
Summer courses on postism
This exhibition will travel to several cities, once the centenary celebration ends, such as Paris, and will be completed with other activities that will come in the coming months such as a guided tour during the Cádiz Book Fair through its most Cadiz places and the presentation of his Cádiz texts by the Publications Service of the Cádiz Provincial Council.
The University of Cádiz will dedicate one of its summer courses to postismo and it is expected that for the first time all his collected poetry will be published by Galaxia Gutengberg.
In addition, the production company Toma 2 and Canal Sur are finalizing a documentary on Ory, a film series has been planned, activities for children and the Ory Foundation conferences will be dedicated to various facets of the author. EFE
