Granada, (EFE).- The Board of the Alhambra and the Generalife will highlight the heritage value of its green spaces with guided tours of the monumental complex, a way of celebrating the European Day of Historic Gardens.
The monumental complex is historically the most visited in the country. It will celebrate the European Day of Gardens that is commemorated next Wednesday with a free guided tour of the Alhambra.
The proposal seeks to highlight the heritage value of its green spaces. And present the reasons why the Alhambra and the Generalife are part of the European Itinerary of Historic Gardens. Also that they have a cultural route certified by the Council of Europe.
These cultural itineraries of the Council of Europe were created in 1987. Currently there are about fifty certified routes in seven different countries.
Sources from the Board of Trustees have detailed to EFE that the European Day serves to highlight the leading role played by the gardens of the Alhambra and Generalife in the monumental complex and in its declaration as a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Since they are inseparable elements of palaces and buildings.
Gardens of the Alhambra of all the centuries
The origin of the Alhambra gardens comes from the cultural legacy of al-Andalus. But the passage of time has left its mark on the link between the green spaces and the rest of the monument.
The catalog of gardens combines the medieval ones, created in the Nasrid period and which are the best known for their degree of mastery and integration to recreate paradise, with the Renaissance ones from the 16th-17th centuries. These stand out for their geometry and order.
The Alhambra also has landscaped spaces from the 19th century. Like the heights of the Generalife, distributed in paratas, or the Paseo de los Cipreses and the gardens of the nearby Cármenes.
Finally, the monumental complex has incorporated spaces designed in the 20th century. Like those in the Plaza del Palacio de Carlos V or the gardens of the Royal Rauda. EFE
