Sanxenxo (Pontevedra), Apr 22 (EFE).- Former Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy sees “no reason” for each visit by the emeritus king to Sanxenxo (Pontevedra) “someone always comes who is determined to put on the show.”
Rajoy, who, like the monarch, is spending a few days in that town in Pontevedra, where he has spent long periods of time “for 50 years”, has defended that the presence of Juan Carlos I in Sanxenxo “must begin to normalize it”.
This is how he has maintained it before walking on foot, accompanied by the mayor of the municipality, Telmo Martín, the 3.6 kilometers of the new path of the Pintillón river, in the parish of Dorrón.
“That the king comes here I think it is a sign of normality and it is good for Sanxenxo,” the former president reiterated to questions from journalists, to whom he assured “with absolute frankness” that he, as a resident of this town, he is “very happy” that he is coming.
He has assured that “I would like this to be normalized and not seen as a strange thing”, especially when, as he recalled, Juan Carlos I has come to Sanxenxo to participate in a sailing regatta, something that “he has been doing all his life ”.
He understands that this support for the monarch can lead to criticism and that people “will say what they want”, but he has ruled that “at this point in life they will understand that I don’t care exactly”.
Rajoy has stressed that the king emeritus has been a “great figure” in the history of the 20th century and has valued the fact that he had “led” the transition, that he “promoted” the Constitution or that “under his mandate” Spain entered the European Union and adopt the euro.
“There is a management that is there,” stressed the former President of the Government.
