Brussels (EFE).- The price for electricity paid by Spanish households in the second half of 2022 was among the highest in the European Union, with an average of 18% more despite the fact that the peninsula was already applying the Iberian”, according to data published this week by the Community statistics office, Eurostat.
The price of the kilowatt/hour (KWh) in households in Spain in the second half of 2022 was 0.3350 euros compared to the average of 0.284 euros/KWh in the whole of the European Union and 0.2906 euros/KWh in the countries of the euro zone, in a calculation that includes the consumption of both households with a free and regulated contract and that also includes taxes and tolls.
The final price of electricity paid in Spain was only surpassed by Denmark (0.5871 euros/KWh), Belgium (0.4489), Ireland (0.4199), the Czech Republic (0.3844), Italy (0.3641) , Romania (0.3411) and Germany (0.3357), although Eurostat does not have data for the second half of Portugal, which also already applied the mechanism that allows limiting the price of gas on the wholesale market.
In the first half of 2022, electricity in Spain was also more expensive on average than in the EU as a whole, with 0.3071 and 0.2525 euros per kilowatt/hour, respectively.

As for gas, the price paid by Spanish households in the second half of 2022 stood at 0.1138 euros/KWh, compared to the average 0.1137 euros/KWh in community households and 0.986 euros/KWh in Eurozone countries, according to the latest Eurostat data.
Spain was therefore the sixth country whose households paid more for gas consumption in the second half of last year, surpassed only by Sweden (0.2751 euros/KWh), Denmark (0.2084), the Netherlands (0.1925 ), Czechia (0.1904) and Greece (0.1599).
