Santiago de Compostela (EFE).- After the dissolution of Novedades Carminha, the musician Carlangas releases his first solo album, an album with the same title, “of transition”, in which, curiously, he is more surrounded than ever by friends from the profession as Manu Chao, Ortiga, Dellafuente, Bronquio or Bifannah.
“My music has a popular vocation. Producing the songs is great, sharing them with friends is great, but now it’s time to share them with the public. The final phase is to take them to the people, to make them of the people and that the club has the opportunity to dance them, because they are made for that”, affirms the musician from Compostela in an interview with EFE.
More than a year has passed since the band Novedades Carminha, one of the reference groups of Spanish pop, decided to dissolve, through a brief statement. There were no compilations or farewell tours. News Carminha disappeared, but its already former leader, Carlangas, has not stopped still.
During this time, the musician from Compostela has begun the recording process of his first album (Ernie Records), a “collage” that includes “different musical proposals” to “continue with the dance and the gap”.
“It was a process that I started sad. After the dissolution of the band I came down and what I did was surround myself with friends, producers, musicians, a good creative direction and start making songs again, to feel like I was back on the wheel”, he explains.
He assures that in a project, once a point has been reached, one can “risk more”. But for his first record, what he wanted was to surround himself with his own people, with people with whom he already had an established connection: “All the people who participated in this record came by my house to eat or sleep,” he says. the singer.
varied collaborations
Carlangas acknowledges that of all his works, this one, his, alone, is the one in which the most people participate. And not only with collaborations on certain songs, such as with Manu Chao in “Cae la noche” or “with Grande Amore in “O día que vuelven nacer”; but also in production design and small arrangements.
Jaime, from Vera Fauna, recorded some guitars. Antía, from Bifannah, also recorded some choruses and Dellafuente did the same with some clapping for the song ‘Los dineros’. In addition, the album is produced in three bands: four songs by Bronquio; two for Nettle; and another two by the band Mundo Prestigio, which now accompanies him live.
With Manu Chao it was a special connection: “I met him through a mutual friend, during the process of creating the album and with him I always felt an artistic connection, because his albums with Mano Negra and solo have accompanied me since I was small,” he says.
He considers that Chao is a musician “capable of mixing many styles” that are common to him, such as Latin music, reggae, rumba or rock, something to which the Compostela also aspires.
“I like music, not a style of music, I try to drink from many places,” he says.
Influenced by the Beastie Boys, by rock and by punk, the song “O día que volvién nacer” emerges, a song that both Carlangas and Grande Amore composed in two days, locked up in a hotel.
From the musician Beck and his wide versatility he was inspired for the song “The joke is over”. And of course, from Manu Chao, from rumba and cumbia, “Cae la noche” was born.
Live, a “ritual”
Carlangas publishes his album this Thursday, but above all he wants to go live, his “ritual” to “forget everything”: “It’s like magic, a place where a lot of people get together to sing and dance. I do not leave the house if it is not to have a party, ”she warns.
Ahead of him is a heart-stopping tour, with almost 30 festivals that will take his music to every corner of Spain. The official presentation will be this Saturday, in Gijón, within the framework of the Vibra Mahou Fest.
In Galicia, it has confirmed dates on April 28, at the Independent Festival of Vilalba (Lugo); on May 26 at Ouren Sound Fest in Ourense; and already in July in Portas (Pontevedra), within the framework of the PortAmérica Festival.
However, one of the concerts that makes him “most excited” is the one that will be held on May 19 in his city, Santiago, during the Ascension festivities with Composfest, in Plaza da Quintana.
“For me it is the best stage in the world. The stars align in that concert because it is organized by the Compostela Sports Society, which is the team of my life and my neighborhood, San Lázaro. I grew up with Compostela in the first division and my first idols were those footballers. I carry it quite inside,” he notes. EFE
