Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (EFE).- The Cabildo de Gran Canaria plans to approve the declaration of insular interest for the Dreamland studios project before the end of May, with the intention that its construction begin as soon as possible, reported the island president, Antonio Morales.
The project, which has a budget of 140 million euros, will create “the largest audiovisual and technological hub in southern Europe” in Telde, Morales assured after meeting this Monday with those responsible for the initiative.
The promoters have already presented to the Cabildo technicians both the basic project and the environmental impact study.
Once the license is obtained, construction of the project will begin, which will last about four years, Dreamland spokeswoman Yaiza Díaz has assured.
This would mean the mobilization of multiple sectors of the economy, both for the construction process and for the training and hiring of personnel, according to what he said.
For its part, the Telde City Council is advancing in the segregation of the plot for the viability of Dreamland Studios Canarias, which will generate 1,000 direct jobs and 15,000 indirect jobs, according to its promoters.
The Councilor for Territorial Policy of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Inés Miranda, has assured that the Land Law allows the declaration of insular interest that the insular corporation foresees for this project.
So far, Dreamland has already received more than 3,000 job applications and more than 300 companies interested in its construction, the company spokesperson has assured.
The project, which will be built in a space of 100,000 square meters, has the support of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and the Telde City Council.
Morales believes that Dreamland is “a positive project for the island,” which is why it has the support of the institutions.
The Dreamland Studios Canarias facilities will allow the production companies to finish the entire process on the islands and carry out the production and post-production processes, without the limitation of only recording the landscapes and having to leave to finish the work abroad.
In addition, the project has a space dedicated to technology with the creation of virtual reality products, augmented reality, video games including triple A, supercomputing and the use of artificial intelligence tools.
This is something that will help the Canary Islands, not only to take the lead in the audiovisual sector, but also in the digital sector, which each year claims 500,000 jobs in Europe, according to promoters.
According to his estimates, the theme park that will accompany the studios can receive a million and a half visitors a year and there will be a waiting list for filming, as is the case in similar facilities, since the audiovisual sector has grown by 58 percent in the last few years. last years.
Morales stressed that the Canary Islands offer the sector a competitive advantage thanks to the REF, good weather, diversity of landscapes and legal certainty.
Likewise, he considers that the boost to the audiovisual sector on the island that Dreamland will allow will favor the diversification of the economy and opens up new tourist possibilities for younger audiences and increases the cultural offer. EFE
