Bilbao (EFE).- A 12-year-old boy died after being hit by a ball while playing in the courtyard of the La Salle school, in Sestao (Bizkaia).
This center, located in the center of the municipality, has kept its patio open on weekends for years so that anyone who wishes can enjoy its facilities, even if they are people from outside the school.
The minor, of Senegalese origin, was in this courtyard with friends, family and many other children when, around 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, he was hit by the ball.
Cardiorespiratory arrest
According to the mayoress of Sestao, Ainoha Basabe, the children who were in the place have recounted that the shot “was not strong and that the child must have been eating at that moment; he began to lean and went into cardiorespiratory arrest ”.
“The police and the ambulance arrived very quickly, in three minutes, and a defibrillator from the school itself was also used, but it was not possible to revive him,” he said.

He has indicated that the investigation is open and has highlighted that the council joins the family’s pain and offers them the help they need to try to overcome “this terrible event”.
The child’s mother and several relatives were treated right there by a psychologist and other health professionals.
Ertzaintza investigation
The Ertzaintza, which has taken charge of the report, has informed EFE that the child died in an accident suffered in the street and that the circumstances in which the death occurred are being investigated, without specifying further details.
The minor was studying sixth grade at the Vista Alegre public school, also in Sestao.
The management of the center has told Efe that they were informing the rest of the students at the center of what happened and that they lacked more information about it.
The Department of Education, for its part, has indicated that it is an event that occurred in a private facility and outside school hours, so it is outside its scope. EFE
