Barcelona, Apr 14 (EFE).- The defense of the former president of FC Barcelona Josep Maria Bartomeu has presented, before the Investigating Court number 1 of the Catalan capital that is investigating the ‘Negreira case’, a letter requesting the inadmissibility of Real Madrid as private prosecution in the case.
In said letter, to which EFE has had access, Bartomeu alleges before the judge investigating the case, the lack of legitimacy of the Madrid club, which has not argued “the slightest indication of damage” on his part for payments of more than 7.5 million that FC Barcelona made, between 2001 and 2018, to the then vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees José María Enríquez Negreira.
Bartomeu, who appears as being investigated in the case, also alleges issues of procedural economy so as not to admit the appearance of the white club as a private accusation, considering that “the Professional Football League or the Royal Spanish Football Federation, entities to which this adhered to by Real Madrid, and who organize the competitions in which this team participates, are already involved in the cause”.
“The admission without any justification of individual private accusations, of each one of the football teams, would lead to a procedure of impossible investigation, because for the same reason they could try to appear in Real Club Deportivo Espanyol, Celta de Vigo, Elche Club de Futbol, etc.”, concludes the letter from Bartomeu’s lawyer, José María Fuster-Fabra.
