Lugo, Apr 12 (EFE).- The driver of the car that suffered an accident on April 1 in Xove (Lugo), in which four young people between the ages of 17 and 19 died, has tested positive for alcohol consumption, after that the Viveiro Court handling the case authorized the blood tests.
The 19-year-old man, who was seriously injured in the accident, is still admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Lucus Augusti University Hospital (HULA).
The toxicological tests, the result of which was pending by the Civil Guard Traffic investigators, were carried out with the blood samples that were taken from him at the hospital.
For this, the corresponding authorization was required from the Investigating Court number 2 of Viveiro, which took over the case in guard duties.
“The researchers already have the results of the official analyzes of the toxicological tests that were carried out on the driver of the vehicle, yielding these tests with a positive result in alcohol consumption,” the Civil Guard confirmed in a statement.
The driver of the vehicle and another young man, who was slightly injured, were the only survivors of the tragic accident that has shocked the region of A Mariña and, especially, the municipality of Ribadeo, the town where the 6 passengers were from.
As for that other survivor, an 18-year-old young man, the Civil Guard has reported that yesterday he was charged as being investigated for a crime of omission of the duty to help, having been absent from the scene of the accident “without helping the other occupants of the vehicle or call for help.
“The crime investigated is typified in article 195 of the current Penal Code and can carry a fine of three to twelve months,” says the Civil Guard.
The investigation into the accident has been taken over by the Burela Civil Guard Traffic Reports and Reports team, which continues with the investigations to determine “the concurrent circumstances in the accident.”
