Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (EFE).- The PSOE candidate for mayor of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council, Carolina Darias, has presented a project to turn the Guiniguada ravine into a promenade for Canarian culture and arts, for which he will propose a contest of ideas if he governs in the city after the elections of May 28.
In an act held at the beginning of what would be the future promenade, at the height of the Pérez Galdós Theater, Darias stressed that with this project he wants to advance his goal of making the capital of Granada the “best city to live in” and reinforce candidacy as European Capital of Culture in 2031.
In his speech, he explained that the walk will reach the rectory of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Pambaso farm, so it will extend one and a half kilometers along the ravine, occupying an area of 40,000 square meters in which a large green space with 6,000 plants and a small auditorium will be created.
Darias has indicated that the project that he presents part of a claim, that of recovering the ravine for the city, but with “a broader approach: urban, cultural, artistic and educational”, because, in addition to uniting the historic neighborhoods of Vegueta and Triana, wants to bring closer the more than 20 cultural, educational and artistic institutions that are concentrated in its surroundings.
These are “institutions of great prestige whose values should serve as the driving force for the development of the city”, stressed the candidate.
With the project, called “Paseo del Guiniguada de la cultura y las artes”, it is intended to give “a new meaning to the historic center of the city and rejoin the old banks of the ravine,” he pointed out.
The ravine must be a car-free and sustainable space, for the enjoyment of citizens, with a program of activities for all ages and in which artists can present their creations, added Darias.
In short, the goal is for Guiniguada to be the largest pedestrian space in the interior of the capital and to represent “urban, artistic, cultural, educational and environmental values” to make a better city, the PSOE candidate has insisted. EFE
