Pamplona (EFE).- In 2021, the population of Navarra that consumes fruits, vegetables, salads and vegetables on a daily basis has decreased, and that which consumes industrial pastries and sweet pastries has increased, compared to the same eating habits registered in 2017.
These are data from the Health Observatory, which reveal that in the case of fruits, the population that claims to consume them daily has gone from 62.1% in 2017 to 52.9% in the last available data for 2021. The daily consumption of vegetables has followed the same downward path and has gone from 42% in 2017 to 32.9% in 2021.
In the analysis of the differences in these consumptions by sex and age, it stands out that the daily consumption of both fruits and vegetables is higher in women compared to men, in fruit, 58.8% compared to 46.2%, and in vegetables, 40.2% compared to 25.4%.
Regarding age, fruit consumption between the youngest group (15 to 34 years) and the oldest (65 and over) presents a significant difference in favor of the latter (37.9% vs. 81.5%). , as well as the daily consumption of vegetables (27.2% vs. 36.9%).
Compared to the state consumption, Navarra is above the average and ranks sixth among the communities in daily consumption of fresh fruit and fourth in daily consumption of vegetables.
Regarding the consumption of legumes, in 2021 the Navarrese population that eats them once or twice a week is 65%. However, the percentage of the population that approaches the recommendations of consuming three or more times a week is reduced to 30.5%.
Regarding the consumption of industrial pastries and sweet pastries among the population of Navarre aged 15 and over, in 2021 the number of people who eat this type of food with different frequency throughout the week has increased compared to 2017.
With all this, the Provincial Government explains in a note that the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) published in December 2022 a series of recommendations for eating a healthy diet. Among them, it stands out the importance of fruits and vegetables being half of the food eaten, as well as increasing the consumption of legumes and the consumption of whole grains.
It is recommended to eat more oily fish
Regarding fish, it is recommended to bet on oily fish, and reduce the consumption of meat, prioritizing the least fat. Dairy, a maximum of three a day and up to 4 eggs a week. It is also collected to consume nuts without salt daily, and avoid processed foods and sugary drinks. As for the drink, it is recommended to consume water, preferably from the tap, and use cooking oil, if possible olive oil.
Other recommendations are collected on consuming fresh, seasonal, local food, that which is bought in local commerce and that food waste is reduced. These recommendations are related to sustainability, in line with the One health – One health concept, which points to the close relationship and interdependence that exists between the aspects associated with human health, animal health and environmental health.
For this reason, a sustainable diet is proposed, which optimizes natural resources, generating less environmental impact.
With all this, the Department of Health, through the Section for Health Promotion and Health in all Policies of the Institute of Public and Labor Health of Navarra (ISPLN), in collaboration with the HUN Dietetics Unit and personnel from the public company INTIA, the Council for Ecological Agricultural Production of Navarra (CEPAEN) and Pamplona Infant Schools, has updated its series of informative materials to promote health with the triptych “Food for your health”, as well as an infographic for post on social media.
This informative material is part of the Lifestyles Program of the Public Health Plan of Navarra 2022-2025 and is expected to be expanded in the medium term with a project on healthy and sustainable eating and physical activity.
