Sao Paulo (EFE).- The Colombian delivery company Rappi announced on Monday the purchase in Brazil of Box Delivery, a company that offers services in the same sector.
Rappi, which is one of the main delivery companies in Brazil, did not provide details of the operation, which must be approved by anti-competition bodies, according to a statement.
The Colombian company stated that Box Delivery is a “complementary” company that offers “last mile” delivery services and focuses on the food segment.
Unlike Rappi, Box Delivery only connects deliverers and businesses, but does not have applications for the final consumer.
Rappi sees in Brazil a key file in the homes of Latin America
Box Delivery is a start-up company created in 2016, which according to its data, makes more than one million deliveries per month, has close to 200,000 couriers in Brazil and has among its clients fast food chains such as Burger King, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s.
In the statement, Rappi also assured that this purchase is in line with its commitment to Brazil, a “priority market” for the company, which is present in nine Latin American countries.
“This acquisition was one more step in the direction of what we want to be in the country. There is a lot of room for growth in the Brazilian delivery (sector) and we are committed to this market, which is very important to us,” Rappi founder Sebastián Mejía said in the statement.
Rappi also highlighted that CADE, Brazil’s anti-competition body, has just taken measures “to guarantee fairer and more balanced competition in the sector.”
In this way, he referred to a decision made by CADE last February against iFood, the leading company in the market, to which it imposed limits for signing exclusivity agreements with restaurants.
