Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (EFE).- The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, flies to Lanzarote this afternoon to spend a few days off with the family, coinciding with the Easter holidays, according to EFE sources from the Executive branch.
Sánchez will take a plane to the island shortly after returning to Madrid from Rome, where he had his first meeting with the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, and will remain in Lanzarote until Sunday.
The sources have refused to offer more details about the president’s plans for these days, since it is a private break.
Pedro Sánchez has chosen Lanzarote several times for his vacation periods and usually stays at the La Mareta residence, in Teguise, a complex built in his day for Hussein of Jordan, who gave it as a gift to King Juan Carlos at the end of the eighties YO.
The Casa del Rey made that residence available to National Heritage some time ago. Heads of State or Government have stayed here, such as the German chancellors Helmut Kohl and Gerhard Schröder, the president of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachov, the Czech president Václav Havel or the Spanish presidents José María Aznar, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and Pedro himself.
