Miami, (EFE).- Former US President Donald Trump stated that the US “is going to hell” and that he never thought “something like this would happen.”
His statements were made in Florida after being charged in New York with 34 counts of falsifying business records.
“This baseless case was made to interfere in the 2024 elections and should be dismissed immediately,” he stressed.
Trump spoke like this at an event held at Mar-a-Lago, the mansion and private club in Palm Beach (Florida) where he resides.
The ex-president gave a statement about what happened this Tuesday, which was something unprecedented in the 245 years of history as an independent country from the United States.
Until now, there has not been a former US president who has been criminally charged.
Trump accused of silencing a porn actress
Trump was accused of allegedly orchestrating a legal scheme to silence three people who could affect his campaign for the Presidency in 2016.
The main protagonist of the case has been the porn actress Stormy Daniels, according to the prosecutor Alvin Bragg explained after the indictment.
Many people wearing red MAGA (Make America Great Again) caps, the movement created by Trump, and other Trumpist garb stood out among those invited to listen live to the 76-year-old former president’s statement in a Mar-a-Lago lounge.
Trump introduced himself to the audience as someone they have been persecuting since he became president in 2017.
The former president said that they have reviewed all the investigations that have been opened with special emphasis on the secret official documents found in Mar-a-Lago.
“They don’t follow the law”
“They don’t follow the law,” he stressed after saying that “the US justice system no longer has the law and is used to win elections.”
Trump was interrupted by the public on several occasions, especially when he spoke about President Joe Biden.
The former president called him a “lunatic” and accused him of visiting “Chinatown” and Manhattan prosecutor Alvin Bragg. About the prosecutor he said that he is “the only criminal”.
“The only crime I committed was defending the United States,” he said.
