Huesca (EFE) the Civil War with her aunts.
The actress Eulalia Ramón, widow of Saura (Huesca 1932-Collado Villalba, Madrid 2023), has followed with emotion the discovery of this work by Julio Luzán, which shows a foreshortened bust of the filmmaker.
Saura, very Huesca
Saura not only felt “very Huesca”, but whenever he could he traveled to his city and to his particularly beloved places, the Miguel Servet Park and the Las Pajaritas sculpture, Ramón highlighted. And now, from his pedestal, he has “the best angle to take photos.”
His widow has explained that Saura kept several memories of his city, “little from when he was born, but more from when he returned from Barcelona to live with his aunts.”
And he remembered “with great affection that he and his brother Antonio (sculptor) loved to go to the city park and to the Las Pajaritas sculpture”.
Saura “presumed a lot about being from Huesca, because he had Huesca deep inside him despite the fact that he did not live here for many years,” he recalled.
Great contribution to cinema, huge human dimension
Although for Ramón Saura’s work and his contribution to cinema is “very great”, his human dimension was “much greater”.
“We, his family,” he stressed, “more notice the recognition of his work, which is great and immense, but we remember above all his human dimension, his way of being, so flat and so close, but also so sarcastic, so ironic , so stubborn and so Aragonese”.
A sculpture to remember
The president of the Aragonese government, Javier Lambán, and the mayor, Luis Felipe, have participated in the act of unveiling the sculpture, who have praised the figure of Saura and his contribution to world cinematography.
The sculpture was promoted by the Aragonese Government and has been located in a place specially chosen by the mayor, for whom, from its pedestal, the image of Carlos Saura “will contemplate what he liked most about his city, its people and its noise and merriment ”.
At the ceremony, a text by Gracián was read, particularly loved by the filmmaker and chosen especially for this occasion by his family and which has given way to the violin interpretation of the theme of one of his latest film productions, “Goya 3 de mayo ”.
