Albacete (EFE).- The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, met this Monday at the Albacete airport the first 100% solar unmanned aircraft, manufactured by Skydweller and which is called to be “key” in safety and prevention, for example in the fight against drug trafficking or terrorism.
This was highlighted by Skydweller’s director of operations and business development, Sebastián Renoir, during his speech at the event, after touring the company’s facilities with Sánchez, to present the project for an aircraft that “can help in the border control or in the fight against drug trafficking” and even in the detection of forest fires.
Sánchez, who has been accompanied by the Minister for Science and Innovation, Diana Morant, and by the President of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, among others, has pointed out that companies like this are an example of the reindustrialization proposed by his Government, which, as he has stressed, is “promoting synergies between the public and private sectors”.
“Zero emission” technologies linked to cutting-edge industry
After stressing that his Executive is paying “unprecedented attention” to the aerospace sector, he has also mentioned his commitment to promoting zero-emission technology and linking reindustrialization and cutting-edge industry with social cohesion.
“It is about closing a gap that limited our capacity for growth, such as public investment in science,” added Sánchez, who has emphasized the importance of the aeronautical sector for generating employment and wealth, and attracting large-scale human capital. worth.
In this sense, he regretted that Spain has been exporting “a unique asset that should not be exported, such as the talent of researchers and scientists” and has advocated going “one more step” and that it is the country that can now attract this international talent .
“We are a demanding country, although it is often difficult for us to recognize our strengths”, stressed the President of the Government.
Foreign direct investment in Spain in 2022, he pointed out, left the second best record in historical terms, with 34,000 million euros.
A project with 60 million investment
Renoir, for his part, has stressed that the aircraft is a joint project developed between Spain and the US, with more than 60 million euros invested and more than 100 highly-qualified jobs”.
He stressed that it is “a first-rate technological projection of the future”, which “has already flown the skies of this province on several occasions”, capable of doing so without a crew.
It has also highlighted that it is “an entirely solar flight, which marks a milestone in the fields of defense, coastal surveillance, the environment, as well as communications”.
After thanking the governments of the United States and France for their support, he specified that this company is “in negotiations with NATO and several European defense ministries.”
“We also hope that the Government of Spain will be a preferred partner in this undertaking; it would be a definitive element of showing national and regional leadership”, Renoir has indicated.
Uninterrupted coverage to cover large areas
In addition, he has insisted that “the advantages of the aircraft are many”, because it offers “uninterrupted and ultra-persistent cost-effective coverage of large areas, for a long period of time, which is not possible with existing technologies”.
As he has assured, “it will allow more precise and specific surveillance” and will be “very useful in civil, military and security operations because it can track suspicious activities or improve early detection of events”, such as detecting fires, and can be ” a fundamental element in the fight against terrorism or drug trafficking”.
