The event occurred after 9 a.m. this Saturday at kilometer 1.1 of the LU-P-2604 provincial highway when, for reasons that are being investigated, the vehicle in which six occupants were traveling fell off an embankment in the place of A Rigueira, very close to a housing development and after going through several farms, it ended up in the middle of a meadow.
As a consequence of the intensity of the crash, four of the occupants died on the spot, the driver was seriously injured and was transferred to the Lucus Augusti University Hospital (HULA) in a medicalized ambulance and another occupant, the sixth, who appeared not to be serious, according to the emergency service, he was transferred to the Hospital da Costa, in Burela.
Viveiro firefighters, emergency health services, including a medicalized ambulance, a 061 helicopter, the supramunicipal emergency group of Cervo, agents of the Traffic Civil Guard and also a team of psychologists to care for the victims, went to the scene of the accident. relatives of the victims.
REACTIONS FROM POLITICIANS
After learning about the accident, the Galician political representatives, who are participating in pre-election events this Saturday, have expressed their condolences for the event.
In this way, the president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, has replied on his social networks to the message from 112 Galicia in which he reported the event this morning: “How sad and how hard. I want to send all my love and support to the families of those who died in their pain, which must be tremendous,” Rueda wrote.
The leader of the BNG, Ana Pontón, has also alluded to the accident in an act in Lugo, the province where the incident occurred.
Pontón has sent a message of condolences to the families of those who died in the serious accident in Xove, “in which two boys and two girls from Ribadeo died,” he said.
“This is a day of pain and we feel it in our souls,” continued the nationalist leader, who told the families of the victims that she is with them on this “very sad” day and wished the driver of the vehicle, in serious condition in the hospital, recover.
The general secretary of the PSdeG, Valentín González Formoso, has also used social networks, who has assured that he feels “shocked” by “such terrible” news.
“I want to send all my love to the families and friends of the victims and accompany them in this immense pain,” he wrote.
THREE DAYS OF MOURNING IN RIBADEO
The corporation of the Lugo municipality of Ribadeo has declared official mourning for three days, -from this Saturday until next Monday, April 3- due to the “tragic death” of four young people from the town in the traffic accident that occurred this tomorrow at the Xove town hall, in A Mariña Lugo.
The Ribadeo City Council declared the three days of official mourning “as a form of solidarity, condolences and sincere support for the families of the people who unfortunately lost their lives.”
“We are aware that gestures do not ease the pain,” adds the Ribadense City Council in an institutional statement, but “they show the closeness, solidarity and unanimous support of the municipal corporation.”
The declaration of official mourning implies that all official acts organized by the Ribadeo City Council, through any of its areas, are suspended, as well as that the flags of the Town Hall will fly at half mast.
