Motril (Granada), (EFE).- Characters from the ‘Minions’ movie dressed as policemen have appeared in different locations in Motril as a sign of protest against the City Council’s decision to use volunteers to ensure citizen safety during the celebration of Holy Week, after the Local Police have refused to work overtime.
The Independent Union of the Local Police of Granada in Motril (SIPLG) has denounced that the City Council “has hired a series of volunteers through a proclamation, who will cover all the needs of Motril at Easter, and also orders the closure from the city center for hours with planters.”
The union recalls that these volunteers “do not have the legal capacity to block a street, or file a report by accident, attend to noise, or nuisance.”
overtime pay
The collective has rejected the decision of the mayoress, Luisa García Chamorro, to whom they demand the payment of the overtime owed and the salary equalization, among other demands and hence the protest of the minions during Easter Week.
At the end of March, the City Council approved a decree to ensure public safety during Holy Week, for which the closure of the urban roads affected by the procession routes has been programmed, with the aim of maintaining the safety of the participants and assistants, as well as the greatest possible normality for the neighbors, city life and its services.
The special device has informants and volunteers to ensure that the brotherhoods and citizens pass through these sections safely. Although the Local Police will not work overtime, the City Council hopes to have the regular service of police officers. EFE
