Castelló (EFE) called and with a “very consolidated” perimeter.
Ángel made these statements at the Advanced Command Post (PMA), located in Barracas, 8 days after a fire that has calcined 4,700 hectares and whose perimeter exceeds 50 kilometers. In addition, 1,200 people continue to be evicted while waiting for the necessary security conditions to be established so that they can return to their homes.
The regional secretary has indicated that a new reconnaissance flight will take place this morning to check the burnt surface and possible hot spots, and has indicated that two drones from the Military Emergency Unit (PMA) have flown tonight with a thermal camera who have also reviewed the possible embers.
Ángel has indicated that the land resources, with 120 people, will continue to work throughout the day with the support of eight air resources that will work in the hottest points.
There is, he added, a “small point of concern”, a ravine that “because of its narrowness and length” it is difficult to get rid of the embers and that is where the air resources will focus during the day.
“Positive evolution” of the fire
José María Ángel has shown his optimism because there is “a positive evolution of the fire” and has indicated that the president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, has convened a CECOPI coordination meeting for late morning -in which he will participate telematically – to see if a decision can be made that allows some of the people who remain outside their homes to be rehoused.
The regional secretary has explained that it has been possible to take advantage of the “window of opportunity” that the weather offered two days ago and has confirmed “the good tactics and strategy within a complexity that came not only from the forest mass but also from a very abrupt” that has “come to endanger” the firefighters.
In this sense, he pointed out that last Sunday there was “displeasure” when twelve firefighters were engulfed by flames and had to make “a great effort to get out.”
For this reason, he thanked the effort made by all the troops to “prevent that in these eight days it could have been prevented from having a more serious impact and from reaching the Sierra de Espadán”, a natural park of great ecological value.
From Emergencies they have recalled that the CV-195, CV-20, CV-203 and CV-207 highways are still closed, while the Civil Guard will maintain access controls to all municipalities and districts where the return has already been allowed of the evicted residents.
