Lugo, Mar 31 (EFE) cause the fire that affected more than 1,400 hectares in the municipalities of Baleira, A Fonsagrada and Ribeira de Piquín.
According to the Civil Guard, the suspect allegedly committed a serious imprudence when carrying out a burning of forest remains, for which he did not have the mandatory administrative authorization, so that he was in breach of the legislation that regulates this type of activity.
To complete the investigation, the Civil Guard had the collaboration of personnel from the VII forest district brigade and the Xunta de Galicia Forest Fire Investigation Unit (UIFO). This joint work, reports the Lugo Command, has allowed “the clarification in 48 hours of the largest forest fire that occurred in Galicia so far in 2023.”
The corresponding technical report determines that the fire started in the place of Cabreira, in Baleira, on Tuesday afternoon.
Given the weather conditions, with “strong gusts of wind and very low relative humidity, the burning allegedly carried out by the person investigated got out of control, affecting an area of more than 1,650 hectares of bare and wooded forest.”
Also, complete, a special conservation area (A Marronda) was affected.
The police proceedings have been referred to the court of first instance and investigation of those of A Fonsagrada (Lugo).
