Bilbao (EFE).- A woman has been seriously injured and admitted to the Major Burn Unit of the Hospital de Cruces, when her ex-partner set her on fire in Bilbao.
As reported by the Ertzaintza, the attack occurred shortly before four in the afternoon at the woman’s home, in the Deusto neighborhood of Bilbao.
The 63-year-old assailant was arrested at the scene for setting fire to the clothes of his ex-partner, who has severe burns and bruises on different parts of his body.
The woman told the agents that the attacker had been her ex-partner.
“Shortly before four o’clock in the afternoon, residents of a building in Bilbao have alerted of the presence in the place of a seriously injured woman, apparently as a result of an attack,” reports the Basque Department of Security in a statement,
“Police and health personnel have immediately gone to said enclave, verifying that the victim had severe burns and bruises from different parts of the body that have made his evacuation to the Cruces hospital necessary.”

The agents have been able to confirm that the cause of the serious injuries had been his ex-partner, who “in the course of an altercation that occurred at her home had come to set her clothing on fire.”
The alleged attacker has been arrested at the scene and, immediately afterwards, has been transferred to police stations in order to carry out the pertinent procedures.
The woman lived in the house where the events occurred, in the Deusto neighborhood, for about 15 years and has a daughter, whose father is the alleged aggressor, residents of the property where the events occurred have told EFE.
Bad relationship
One of them, who is the one who put out the fire in her dress, has reported that the relationship between the two was bad, that the arguments were frequent and that the woman had kicked him out of the house on more than one occasion but that they never thought “that They could go to these extremes.
This neighbor has recounted that this afternoon, upon hearing screams in the victim’s apartment, he has gone to the place and has seen the woman engulfed in flames, for which he has grabbed a towel and threw it over him with what he has managed to put out the fire.
Other residents of the property, who have also approached when they heard the disturbance, have assisted the woman until medical assistance has arrived and taken care of the wound.
After learning about the brutal attack, the government delegate in the Basque Country, Denis Itxaso, expressed his rejection in a message on his social networks in which he described the attack as “atrocious” and “inhuman”.
“The only thing to trust is his recovery and invite the public to show their strongest social condemnation,” he concluded.
