Maliaño (EFE).- Maliaño (Camargo) could see the project to cover the roads that cross its urban nucleus become a reality in five years, to have new spaces that its neighbors can enjoy in a second phase of the project presented this Thursday.
With the objective of improving the “permeability” of the infrastructure, generating a new green space in the urban center of Maliaño, the project contemplates two successive phases: a first to cover the section of the train track and the necessary fillings to connect both banks of the road and, a second, to urbanize the new spaces created.
At a public event that took place in the assembly hall of the La Vidriera cultural center, where some 300 residents came to learn about this project, the president of Adif, María Luisa Domínguez, accompanied by the president of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla, the Cantabrian vice president, Pablo Zuloaga, and the mayoress of Camargo, Esther Bolado, stressed that this project is the result of collaboration between administrations.
More than 17,000 m2 of new public spaces
The project plans to cover the Torrelavega-Santander line in a 275-meter section, as it passes through the urban area of Maliaño, as well as about 140 meters from Francisco Rivas and Julio de Pablo streets.
As explained by Rodríguez, the grade of the roads will be lowered in the covered sections, thus facilitating urban integration and minimizing the impact on the Cros park and maintaining in the first phase the accesses to the two public car parks located at its ends.
The roof will generate a new public space of some 17,500 accessible square meters, which will be urbanized including street furniture and integrated into the environment with pedestrian walkways suitable for people with reduced mobility.
The president of Adif has indicated that the next step to follow in this project, which has an investment of 12 million euros, is the signing of the agreement between the public company, the Government of Cantabria and the Camargo City Council, in which it works.
“Great news” for Camargo and Cantabria
Revilla has assured that he is willing to sign that agreement for a project that is “great news” for the region and for the municipality that will gain in naturalness and accessibility and that, as he has pointed out, will be a “total change” for Camargo and for two peoples who were “totally separated”.
The vice-president highlighted the “integrative” character that will make it possible to expand the green areas and improve the lives of the residents of an “old aspiration” that “finally” has an answer.
“Dear neighbors, today is a great day for Camargo, for this mayoress as well and especially for the residents of the Maliaño-Muriedas urban area and the Cros area, who will see how we will heal a scar that will allow the integration of these areas”, has underlined the mayoress.
Bolado, who recalled in his speech the chronology of this project, has assured that it begins “a before and after” for the municipality and for all the residents and has promised that in “five years, from today”, the first phase of the project “be a reality”.
According to the infographics that have been shown, phase two contemplates providing green spaces to the entire urban area and suppressing the current parking lots that are in the back of the Santo Cristo church and in the back of the municipal library.
