Castelló (EFE) EFE the regional secretary for Security and Emergencies of the Generalitat Valenciana, José María Ángel.
This morning a reconnaissance flight was carried out in the area affected by the fire, whose evolution “has not been negative tonight” but could be complicated today by the high temperatures, which are already reaching 20 degrees in the area, and by the wind from the west, “complex and complicated”, as it can reach gusts of up to 40 kilometers per hour, Ángel has pointed out.
Ángel has also indicated that the weather forecasts for today “make extinction very difficult”, to which must be added a “very complicated” orography since it is an area of ravines and large slopes.
Efforts, he has indicated, will focus on the municipalities of Montán and Montanejos, which are already evicted, to prevent the flames from reaching this area and from being able to jump and go through the Sierra de Espadán.
According to José María Ángel, just over 1,800 hectares have already been burned in this forest fire, according to initial estimates by the technicians.
The regional secretary for Security and Emergencies has also reported that some 1,500 people have been evacuated, 106 of them relocated to the Segorbe and Onda sports centers and the rest to relatives’ homes or second homes.
73 evacuated from the Montán residence due to the fire
The Ministry of Equality and Inclusive Policies has evacuated 73 people from the residence for dependent elderly people in Montán due to the fire, transferred to the public residence for the elderly in Burriana with a large device of ambulances and adapted vehicles.
According to Equality sources, of the 73 people transferred, 17 are highly dependent, so a very broad device has been coordinated.
They have specified that 32 of these people have been relocated to the Burriana residence for dependent elderly people, directly managed by the Generalitat Valenciana, and the rest to the residences of the Savia group in Quartell (29 highly dependent elderly people), San Antonio de Benagéber (9 people) and Xirivella (9 people).
The evacuation efforts, coordinated by the Castellón Territorial Directorate for Equality and Inclusive Policies, began last night and were completed this morning at 7:00 a.m.
The General Directorate for the Elderly launched the evacuation protocol in case of fire yesterday afternoon due to the advance of the flames towards this town in Alto Mijares.
A hundred people spend the night in sports centers
A total of 106 people have spent the night in the Segorbe and Onda sports centers after the eviction of 1,500 people from eight Alto Mijares municipalities due to the forest fire.
As reported by the Red Cross of Castellón, 103 people have been rehoused in the Segorbe sports center and 3 in Onda, where a total of 300 beds have been installed available to evacuees who need it.
