Gijón (EFE).- Companies from the metal industry will seek to expand their business in the field of renewable energies in various countries in Africa, a continent that “offers great opportunities” and is “full of possibilities”.
This was confirmed this Wednesday by the president of the Federation of Metal and Allied Entrepreneurs of the Principality of Asturias (Femetal), Antonio Fernández Escandón, on the occasion of a working day in which around sixty Spanish, Italian, French and German companies from the renewable energy and electricity generation, distribution and transmission sectors seeking to generate synergies with Ganna, Senegal, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda.
The president of the employers’ association has explained that this project, called “European Sustainable Energy Cluster partnership for Africa”, intends that European firms can become “true allies” so that African countries “can find in renewable energies a vector of industrial growth”.
Continent “full of possibilities”
In his opinion, Africa is a continent “full of possibilities”, where MetalIndustry4, the advanced manufacturing cluster promoted by Femetal, the Basque Energy Cluster and the rest of the consortium will launch trade missions that will take place this year and next year. the target countries mentioned above.
Fernández Escandón has underlined the importance of having European funding to promote this type of project on the African continent, where “infrastructures are not very developed”.
On the other hand, he stressed that the implementation of projects linked to renewable energy are “one more part of the lifeline” for the metal industry, whose situation “is improving”.
“Companies are getting ahead”, he pointed out after warning, however, of the impact that inflation continues to have on companies in the sector.
For his part, the Minister of Industry, Employment and Economic Promotion, Enrique Fernández, stressed that the regional government has reports that indicate the “clear will” of these African countries to take advantage of the potential of renewable energies and to “offer opportunities of business” to companies.
