Madrid (EFE).- The Barcelona soccer player Alexia Putellas and the golfer Jon Rahm have been distinguished with the King Felipe and Queen Letizia awards, as the best athletes of the year, according to the vote of the jury of the 2021 National Sports Awards.
The Higher Sports Council (CSD) announced this Wednesday the winners of the different award categories, among which are the Olympic champions in Tokyo 2020 Alberto Ginés (Climbing), Fátima Gálvez and Alberto Fernández (Olympic shooting), the runner-up in taekwondo Adriana Cerezo and the Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas, gold in triple jump.
The awards ceremony will take place on April 18.

Jon Rahm reached first place in the world ranking of professional golf players in 2021 and won the US Open and second place in the Zozo Championship, while Alexia Putellas won the Champions League, La Liga and the Queen’s Cup , in addition to winning FIFA’s “The Best” award, which he also collected in its latest edition.
The Rey Juan Carlos award for the best revelation athlete went to the climber Alberto Ginés, winner of the combined event at the Tokyo Olympics, in the first edition in which climbing was part of the Olympic program, and the taekwondo athlete Adriana Cerezo, silver in -49 kilos in the Japanese capital and gold in the European Championship, she was recognized with the Princess Leonor award, as the best athlete under 18 years of age.
The Barón de Güell Cup, which distinguishes the best team or selection, was awarded to Fátima Gálvez and Alberto Fernández, gold winners in the Tokyo Olympic shooting mixed team event, as well as other medals in different world and European championships, and the Ibero-American Community Trophy to the Venezuelan athlete Yulimar Rojas, gold in Tokyo and world record in triple jump.
Other awards for promoting sport and fair play
Other distinctions include the Reina Sofía award for the Navarro Sports Institute, for its projects in favor of fair play and the eradication of any type of violence, such as the mediation office, the online training platform and its collaboration in matters of equality, LGTBI and migrations with different institutions, and the Infanta Sofía award for the National Hospital for Paraplegics of Toledo, for its use of sport as a first-rate therapeutic tool in the treatment of people with spinal cord injury.
The Stadium Cup went to the Real Grupo de Cultura Covadonga, for its promotion of sport, especially grassroots; the Higher Sports Council Award, for the Spanish town that has stood out for its promotion of sport and physical activity, went to the Murcian municipality of Águilas and the Joaquín Blume Trophy, which recognizes the educational center that stands out for promoting education Physics, for the Hermenegildo Lanz Institute in Granada.
The National Prize for Arts and Sciences Applied to Sports for the Podoactiva center and the Francisco Fernández Ochoa Prize, which distinguishes a lifetime dedicated to the practice, organization, direction, promotion and development of sport, for Conrado Durántez, president of the Spanish Olympic Academy from 1968 to 2022.
The CSD indicated that it has received more than 150 nominations for the awards that failed this Wednesday, a figure that had never been reached before since its first edition in 1982.
The awards have been granted by a jury made up of representatives of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE), the Spanish Paralympic Committee, the Youth Sports Foundation, the ADO program, high-level athletes, sports federations, professional competitions, autonomous communities, sports press and sports industry.
