Logroño, Mar 22 (EFE).- Former Spanish coach Vicente del Bosque believes that the VAR promotes “some laughable situations” and considers that some criteria of its operation should be corrected.
Del Bosque made these statements during his participation in the ‘SER Fútbol’ meetings at the University of La Rioja, organized by Cadena SER in this community.
When referring to the VAR, he ironized and pointed out that he wants to be “a good ex” (coach). That is why “I would like not to mess with anyone,” he added.
The former coach believes that VAR “is a system that you shouldn’t turn your back on, but you have to try to correct some things.”
“I still watch football with passion and a certain emotion and, for example, what is happening with the hands is laughable, since we should go into assessing intentionality and will and VAR does not do that,” he said.
Regarding the national team, he said that the Spanish team is experiencing a moment of “obvious” generational change with the absence of players like Sergio Busquets, Sergio Ramos or Jordi Alba, and he wished that “it goes well” for the La Rioja coach Luis de la Fuente, with whom he maintains a good relationship and who has made, in his opinion, “a balanced list” in his first call.
Del Bosque adopted a more serious tone when questioned about the “Negreira case.” “It’s a very serious thing and it hits the key to the competition, which is credibility, and that’s why it’s very dangerous,” he stressed.
