Santander/Madrid, Mar 22 (EFE).- A woman was injured this Wednesday in the Cantabrian town of Santullán, in Castro Urdiales, in the third accident in just six days involving drivers who, for different reasons, have crashed into bar terraces located next to roads.
The other two occurred last Friday in Vilaboa (Pontevedra), where two men died and two others were injured, and this Wednesday in A Merca (Ourense), with two women injured.
In Castro Urdiales, a 45-year-old driver, who quadrupled the permitted alcohol rate and who was driving “at high speed” on the highway on the CA-931, has collided with two vehicles stopped next to a bar, causing one of them to run over the terrace where a woman was.
Due to the impact, that person was injured and had to be transferred in a 061 ambulance to the Laredo Hospital, according to what the Castro Urdiales Local Police told EFE.
In A Merca, an old man “about 80 years old” who, according to the Civil Guard, has suffered an oversight at the wheel of a minivan, has hit the terrace of a bar and has run over two women in their 40s who were in the establishment having a drink with another woman who had time to escape.
The event occurred around 12:20 p.m. when the driver of the vehicle, who was parked, tried to start the march and got confused in the maneuver, invading the terrace.
According to the owner of the bar, the vehicle was going “very slow” when it entered the terrace, hitting tables and chairs that ended up on the two women, who were injured to various degrees according to information from the Civil Guard.
This accident was similar to that of last Friday the 17th in Vilaboa, the most serious of the three, in which the driver of a car ran over four men who were sitting at a table playing a game on the terrace of a hotel establishment.
Sources from the Civil Guard and 112 reported that the driver of the car, who later gave a negative breathalyzer test, lost control of the vehicle when trying to park it, probably by getting confused with the pedals, and collided with this cafeteria located in the zero kilometer point of the N-554.
One of the men run over was treated at the scene when he was slightly injured, but the other three were transferred to hospitals in Pontevedra and Vigo, where two of them died.
