Santander, Mar 17 (EFE) with the historical roaming of this center.
A “historic” day in Cantabria for the representatives of the regional government, the City Council and the State, who have starred in the first shovel to bury that stone, with which a 30-month project begins with a budget of 45 million euros.
The president of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla, the vice president, Pablo Zuloaga, the mayoress of Santander, Gema Igual, and the government delegate, Ainoa Quiñones, have taken the shovel for the start of works, which are carried out on the plots of Puertochico.
The old headquarters of the Cantabrian Government was established on that space, in whose basement the first Mupac was initially.
More than 20,000 m2 of Mupac
With a unique geometry that represents a series of layers, the building will integrate an administrative area and the new museum in the same space, which, together with two underground floors, total a little more than 20,000 square meters.
In addition, the geometric game allows to overcome the unevenness from Juan de la Cosa street to Paseo Canalejas through the vertical staggering of its volumetry.
On the outside, this space generates a series of open areas in the form of squares facing Casimiro Sainz street and a sequence of viewpoint terraces on the building’s own roofs.
Inside, the new Mupac will have a more public area made up of the cafeteria, library and multipurpose room.
And it will have spaces with collections that will form part of a vertical route that joins the permanent exhibition halls, distributed over two floors, with the temporary ones, on the top floor of the museum.
The Mupac, will house the power of the history of Cantabria, bringing together the rock heritage of the region and aspiring to be a meeting point for researchers.
The “place it deserves” Prehistory
This new space will give the place that “it deserves” to the “origins and history” of Cantabria, a “dream” fulfilled, according to the regional president, who has celebrated the end of the museum’s roaming, which in the It is currently located in the basement of the Mercado del Este.
As he recalled, the capital of Cantabria has planned a “cultural ring” that “in less than twenty minutes” will connect several museums on foot, an “incomparable and unbeatable” attraction, Revilla emphasizes.
In this sense, the Vice President and Minister of Culture, Pablo Zuloaga, has also spoken, who has stressed that “the old debates are left behind” about this museum space and has defined the new space as “a collective success of the citizens of Cantabria” .
In addition, he stressed that it will help the city to promote the “knowledge economy” and seasonally adjust tourism in Santander.
The Santander Cultural Ring
Gema Igual has pointed to this deseasonalization and has referred to that future “cultural ring”, which will give tourists “a great reason” to go to the capital of Cantabria.
“It is a very important day for our city, region and country”, he pointed out.
The Government delegate pointed out that in the future “those who have done everything possible” to achieve this space will be “valued” and has emphasized the commitment of the Government of Spain, which will pay for the work.
