The team has had an investment of 3 million euros provided by the Amancio Ortega Foundation through the agreement signed with the Generalitat for the incorporation of new technology for diagnosis and medical treatment.
The gamma knife is part of an improvement with respect to the equipment initially provided for in the agreement with FAO thanks to the management carried out by the Administration in the bidding process, which allowed the acquisition of new equipment.
The Esprit Gamma Knife Unit is indicated for the treatment of brain pathologies such as brain tumors (benign and malignant, brain metastases, meningiomas, acoustic neuromas), arteriovenous malformations, functional disorders (trigeminal neuralgia) or movement disorders. (Parkinson tremor).
“This is the most advanced technology on the market for performing Radiosurgery. The equipment stands out for its high mechanical and radiological precision and is designed for greater protection and comfort for patients”, explained Eduardo Ferrer, head of the Radiotherapy Oncology Service at the Hospital Clínico de València.
These techniques are performed by a multidisciplinary team made up of specialists in Radiation Oncology, Neurosurgery and Radiophysics.
Worldwide, only 350 centers have this advanced technology.
In addition, the installed equipment (Gamma Knife Esprit) is the latest model developed by the Elekta company and is the first to be installed in the European Union.
This equipment model introduces a technological improvement that allows reduction of calculation and treatment times.
