Logroño, (EFE).- Some 2,000 people, according to sources from the organization, have demonstrated this Wednesday, International Women’s Day, through the streets of Logroño to claim equal rights, as a guarantee of democracy and freedom.
The demonstration, called by the March 8 Platform, was attended by representatives of the organizations that comprise it – PSOE, IU, UGT, CCOO, USO and Progressive Women -, as well as the president of La Rioja, Concha Andreu , and a large part of the members of his government team.
Despite the rain, thousands of people have gathered late in the afternoon at the Glorieta del Doctor Zubía to commemorate, one more year, International Women’s Day, with a massive demonstration, in which color has stood out characteristic violet of this ephemeris.
The purple banner of the March 8 Platform, with the slogan “Equal rights, guarantee democracy and freedom”, presided over the demonstration, followed by another of the same color, from the PCE, which read “without consent is rape, only yes is yes!”, alluding to the so-called law of “only yes is yes”.
This year, the Secretary for Equality of the PSOE of Logroño, Izaskun Fernández, has acted as spokesperson for the convening Platform, who, in statements to journalists at the beginning of the march, explained that in La Rioja “there is not a moment of disunity” in feminism.
“It is true -he stressed- that, on other occasions, all the feminist sensibilities in this region have made great efforts to come to an agreement and come out together, and that is what we have to work on because, in the end, We all put aside the acronyms and came out under a single motto”.
He has highlighted the great variety of participants in the march in terms of gender, age and ideological affiliation because “La Riojan citizens deserve nothing other than unity”. EFE
