Paterna (Valencia) (EFE).- Maribel Verdú considers that, after a stage of hiatus in the film industry and uncertainty caused by the covid pandemic, cinema, Spanish among them, is experiencing “an incredible moment”, in which that the sector has “reinvented” and “pulled forward with great force”.
This is how the actress expressed it to journalists shortly before receiving the special prize at the Antonio Ferrandis Festival held this Saturday in Paterna (Valencia), a recognition that she receives with “great enthusiasm” and which also serves as a “wonderful excuse”. to come to a Valencia that he “loves” and to which “years” of his career and “many friends” join him.
“The cinema is incredible. The truth is that it is going through an impeccable moment, and this after the covid and all the fear we had of how we were going to overcome all that… I think we have reinvented ourselves, pushed forward with force…”, Verdú stated, who has applauded, among others, “the producers who have risked a lot and have drawn the strength and desire from under the stones” to make this happen.
forty years acting
Maribel Verdú, who celebrates her 40th anniversary in the profession in October, “which is said soon”, has indicated that this is yet another stage of cinema, and that each one that she has lived through has had its good and bad things.
“Imagine everything I’ve experienced… From when 35 mm filming took place in 8-hour shifts with food included until, suddenly, the shifts were 14 hours… Excuse me? But if the best films were made in shifts of 8…”, he has shared.
“I have lived through the era -of the cinema- of the sandwich with a beer and now during the break you cannot drink it because if something happens the insurance does not cover it… Now it is different, I don’t know if it is more meticulous, but before it was different and the movies came out marvelous”, he said, although he admitted that “there were also ugly things that would not be allowed now”.
After recalling that in all his years of career he has been “lucky to have worked not once but several times” with “great actors” such as Paco Rabal, Fernando Rey, Agustín González and Manuel Aleixandre and to have worked for “the best ” Spanish directors, has insisted that, although he prioritizes the personal over his work, his life is acting.
“I don’t know how to do anything other than act. It’s my life. It sucks that one day they suddenly stop calling you and you think: Look, I don’t know how to do anything else… But what I do know how to do is live. I like to live. I make the most of my time and prioritize my life over my work”, she has commented.
women in cinema
Asked about the current position of women in the film industry and acting in general, she expressed her opinion: “We are sticking our heads out as best we can, because I know that they are not all easy because the director or screenwriter is a woman… It still continues, and they throw back projects for being a woman”.
In her opinion, “being a woman is very complicated” and, “although much progress has been made”, she is convinced that when she dies -“at 92-94 years old, which is when I think I am going to die”, she jokes between laughs-, it will still continue “living the struggle of women to achieve goals and dreams and that conditions and salaries are equalized.”
Regarding women actresses and the bill that their birthdays can take and not being called to play certain roles, she has said that she has “grown up in the cinema”, which is why she has practically always played her age at each stage. .
“And, although it is true that at my age I could not play the wonderful roles that I did, it is also true that now I can play fantastic characters, full of edges and experiences like the ones I have been doing in recent years,” he celebrated.

“Then I’m going to shoot with Rodrigo García in Mexico to the Guadalupe Valley, and it’s the third time I’ve been partnering with Daniel Giménez Cacho. Subsequently, on June 16, ‘The Flash’ premiered, a film in which I play the superhero’s mother, and in August I shoot the eighth part of ‘Elite’. In addition, this year I will also have the promo for the three Mexican movies and ‘The Flash’, she explained excitedly.
