As reported on Thursday by the General Staff of the Ukrainian Army, the Russian offensive is concentrated in the Kharkov region, in the northeast, and in the neighbors of Lungansk and Donetsk, in the east, both bordering Russia.
“Ukraine repelled attacks near Kupiansk, in the eastern Kharkiv region, not far from neighboring Lugansk, and in the Donetsk towns of Lyman, Bakhmut, Adviika and Shakhtarsk”, where, according to the General Staff, “ Russia is concentrating its main offensive efforts.”
Precisely, in the strategic town of Bakhmut, the Ukrainian army assures that the clashes continue “street by street”, since control of the area would allow either side to have a safe corridor to transport weapons and soldiers.
The General Staff also reported that Russia launched 19 air strikes and 37 multiple launch rocket system strikes over the past day, causing damage to towns and villages and injuring an unspecified number of civilians.
Control of Donestsk
Kiev assures that Moscow maintains its strong offensive in the area to achieve total control over Donetsk, one of the four regions that Moscow unilaterally annexed last September and has not yet managed to fully occupy.
“Russian-backed local militias and private mercenary groups, such as the Kremlin-backed Wagner Group, have been helping Russian regular forces in the area and have suffered heavy losses,” the Ukrainian army said, quoted by local agencies. .
He also warned that the threat of Russia launching missile attacks “remains high throughout Ukraine” and, therefore, the Ukrainian authorities maintain a reinforcement of security measures throughout the country, which tomorrow will live the first anniversary of the start of the invasion.
In southeastern Ukraine, in the Kherson region, attacks took place on Wednesday that killed, according to the regional administration, at least two civilians.
“The Russian occupiers fired 71 shots in the Kherson region. They attacked with various weapons: MLRS (multiple launch rocket systems), mortars, artillery, tanks and unmanned aerial vehicles,” regional authorities said.
This region is partly occupied by the Russian Army, which withdrew to the left bank of the Dnieper River last January, splitting it in two.
